Independent Study in Applied Macroeconomics PARK, Cheol Soo
This independent study aims to apply economics to all possible realistic issues, rather than theoretical ones, in a real economy. Topics cover the comparative study of Asian economies, development economics, economic growth, industrial economics, financial economics, and legal aspects of bank and capital markets. For empirical study, the coursework includes, in addition to data analysis, case studies from such places as the Harvard Business School and the Kennedy Public Policy School on various qualitative aspects such as legal and business cases. This course also covers empirical international studies of Asian economies including Japan, China, Korea and ASEAN, as well as the USA and the EU. It extends empirics to Japanese company-industry and M&A studies based on company balance sheet data (Houjin toukei), and stock price data (Choujou kigyou toukei). Moreover, this course will emphasize, for practical implications, the legal business viewpoints that relate to the financial structure and governance of a company and the economy as a whole.
