Economic Theory Studies in Applied Macroeconomics PARK, Cheol Soo
This lecture aims to apply economics into all the possible realistic, rather than theoretical, issues in the real economy. We will attempt to form a foundation that helps students understand the relationship between economic theory and empirical methods and issues. Topics to be covered are: the comparative study of Asian economies, development economics, economic growth, industrial economics, financial economics, and legal aspects of bank and capital markets. Focus this year is given to explaining economic fluctuation, growth, and income distribution, e.g. the formation of wealth. We will also conduct empirical cross-country studies of Asian economies including Japan, China, Korea and ASEAN. The class extends empirics to Japanese company and industry studies based on company financial data. Moreover, for policy implications, this lecture will emphasize the political economy viewpoint relating to processes of policy formation and execution.
