In this lecture, we shall focus on theories, empirical evidence, and policy questions that pertain to economic competitiveness. For example, basing our inquiries on industrial organization theory, we shall analyze the strategic activities of companies (blocking new entrants, differentiation, advertisement, research and development, etc.), competition within markets, and economic policy. Participants will come to understand how the theoretical and empirical fruits of industrial organization theory are being used by companies and learn to analyze how competitiveness policies and policies regarding the deregulation of public works are actually being implemented. |
