Mariko's doctor here has developed a leg brace that keeps the foot in the right position so that healing can occur but it is also possible to walk fairly comfortably.
Thick soles are the latest fad here. Of course, it's just a coincidence that Mariko's footware seems to follow that trend.
Mariko uses just one crutch to get around. She can put some weight on her injured leg.
