Unoko Falls

These pictures were taken at a waterfall called "Unoko" in the Yabe region of Kumamoto. It's about an hour and a half away from where we live. We like it a lot but for some reason not many people visit it. When we were there (May 10, 1998) the only other people we saw there were a group from the local community who were there to gather bamboo roots (which are boiled and served as a vegitable).

This first picture gives you a view of the waterfall, which is actually made up of two large waterfalls.

The second picture shows Mia, Mariko, and Leon in front of the falls. They look like they're having a nice time, don't they?

By the way, I mentioned above that Unoko Falls is made up of two large waterfalls. This picture is taken from a different angle so that the waterfall you see in the background is the lower one. The place is so big it's hard to get it all into one shot.

The third picture shows Leon standing on the flat, rocky area above the waterfall that you can see in the first picture. I think it gives you a sense of the scale of the place.
