Kumamoto and the World: Looking at local history from a global viewpoint

**Welcome!!

The goals of this class are: 1. to gain an understanding of Kumamoto and its place in the world through history, 2. to learn how to research historical documents on and offline 3. to appreciate the local culture of Kumamoto and share it with others. In general, we will look at Japanese history, especially Kumamoto history, through the lens of international communication, interaction and cooperation.
History is not all good. All nations, all peoples can look back at parts of their history with pride, and other parts with horror, shock and shame. We will look at both sides of Higo history in this course.
