I have been working part-time at a convenience store since I was a high school student. I think I know how difficult this service is for quite a long time. I have experienced a lot of anger from customers. Sometimes I feel like they are just taking out their stress on me. Lately, I have not had many things to get angry about, but for the first time in years, I have offended a customer quite a bit.
Convenience store workers have to ask customers what kind of service they want. Customers want to leave the store as soon as possible, so, the clerk becomes very impatient. In Kumamoto City, where I live, there are now more types of designated trash bags. I mistook kind of trash bags. I thought it was a trifle.
It's common for us to actually make mistakes and we can easily correct them. However, it seems to have been a serious mistake for the opponent. I couldn't understand his feelings very well. The cash register was crowded, angry customers stayed longer, and the person in charge was preached over the phone. I felt that the values were at least hard to understand and my explanation was insufficient, but I thought I had done what I had to do.
It makes you realize that there are many different people in the shops where people cross. Of course, I myself go to the store as a customer, but I exist as a cashier when I work. Because of this difference in stance, there are times when attitudes toward people change.
This is not so much about prevention as about personality and humanity. In Japan, there is a big difference in strength between customers and clerks, and they are under the illusion that they can do anything. In Russia, this position is reversed. I was very surprised, but this is a culture and should be respected. As a cashier, what I might say is that there are many things that can lead to trouble. The challenge is how to make the difficult problem easier to understand. At least the convenience store industry is working together to make it easy for salespeople to understand and comfortable for customers.
It would appear that I am complaining a lot here. However, I actually like this job more than I thought I would. Compared to supermarkets, there are far more services. Convenience stores have now developed into indispensable social infrastructure. They also good at catching up with trends, and in fact, the products change every week. I'm proud of this service that I don't have overseas. However, I think it can be said of all industries that as they develop, new challenges mutually arise. Is there an answer to this service? It's a very difficult problem, but I believe it solutions. However, everyone may not be looking for that fulfilling service. This is because there are cases where the system is actually too difficult to get in a good mood. The solution will be difficult in the end, but I am working same store long time, I like this job.
