GENERAL COMMENTS ON YOUR PAPERS

1. Make sure you write in the template EVERY TIME! Your title page and bibliography should ALWAYS BE INCLUDED.

From now on, papers that are not in the template will NOT be accepted.

  • Make sure that your name and the name of your paper is changed BOTH in the title page and the header!
  • Make sure that YOUR TITLE is changed to an appropriate section for your title.

2. HOW TO AVOID USING "I"

  • I will write about = This paper will discuss
  • I think Japanese is a hard language. = Japanese is considered to be a hard language.
  • I was surprised that ..... = Surprisingly, ...
  • I will take a questionnaire = A questionnaire will be taken

AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS, PUT PERSONAL INFORMATION IN A 脚注 (footnote)

3. Indentation

Each paragraph should be indented about 5 spaces. Use your tab key!

4. Bibliography

Should be in alphabetical order

5. Quotes

Make quotes as follows:

According to Yoneoka (2000:14), "the most widely spoken language in the world is English."

FOR A LONGER QUOTE, (over three lines) separate it from your text as shown below.

Yoneoka (2008:37) comments that

 Although covering is a legitimate artistic process, it has often been the brunt of
 severe criticism as an act of pakuri (plagiarism or copycatting), a kowtow to Western
 imperialism and/or simply immorality. No doubt there are many cases in which some of these
 criticisms are valid, but to condemn all cover music as such is to ignore and negate the
 processes of creativity involved in recreating artistic works to make them relevant to the
 sensitivities of a culturally different audience.
