2014 studies introduction of multilingual Thai/Thai Lao/English signage at Khon Kaen University in Northeast Thailand.
It surveyed the opinions of 300 students together with
observation of students and interviews with members of the faculty. The research type is a mixed-methodology investigation of identity and language policy planning, cultural promotion, glocalization, Gal and Irvine’s semiotic ideology structuration process, the (urban) linguistic landscape and Bourdieu’s theories of social reality. The study found high levels of support for the signage from the student body, members of the faculty and stallholders.

the researchers planned to create multilingual Thai/Thai Lao/English menu
signage for food and beverages (F&B) as part of a third extension of ILMRP. This signage was intended to complement or replace Thai-only menu signage in food stalls in the faculty canteen, in order to help foreign visitors and other interested people understand the F&B menus. Moreover, it was posited that interested students could also learn F&B vocabulary and their spellings (both in English and the Thai Lao language), as well as basic English grammar. It was considered that this may aid in language acquisition. On the other hand, while a key principle is to internationalize KKU, this must be done without unbalancing the Thai culture or neglecting local or Isan traditions, as emphasized in the mission statement.
