How are foreign languages taught in another country? There are many people who learn Japanese in Korea. In addition, Korea is very eager in English education. Therefore, this thesis will compare English education and Japanese education in Korea. Especially it will focus on comparing the teaching methods used for both languages. Section 2 will review historical research on both kinds of education in Korea. Section 3 will discuss linguistic research of Korean compared with English and Japanese. For example, it is said that Korean and Japanese are similar in grammar, but English grammar is different. However, pronunciation of Korea and Japanese are not similar at all. English pronunciation is not also similar. Section 4 and 5 will focus on Japanese and English education specifically at Daejeon University. The way to research this topic will include interviews of English and Japanese teachers at Daejeon University and classroom observation of their teaching methods. In addition, a questionnaire for exchange students at KGU who are from Daejeon University will also be conducted. The questionnaire will be about their learning experiences with Japanese and English. Examples of questions will be "Which is easier for you, English or Japanese?", "Which did you feel more similar to Korean?", "When did you start learning English (Japanese)?", etc. Section 5 will discuss the results of questionnaire, interview and observations.
