So, in review, two Spanish monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella

commissioned an Italian explorer Christopher Columbus to survey

what they thought was India and China.

and then a German mapmaker Martin Waldseemler decided to called it America,

 a latinized feminized of the Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucchi whose name 

originated from the 11th century Hungarian Saint Emericus.
