First Keypal：Melissa
She is Melissa from Italy. I met her at the homepage of Student Soft World (Here is the URL.→ http://www.studentsoftheworld.info/). I chose her, because she was interested in foreign languages and so am I. She has studied French for 3 years, and she’s studying English from 8 years old. She likes learning new languages! Her name, Melissa is a name of a flower known as Lemon Balm. Besides, she says, it is the name of one of the nymphs who helped save Zeus from his father in the Greek mythology. I asked her about next major holiday in Italy. She answered it was "Tutti i morti e tutti i santi", and they celebrate all the death people and all the saints. On the Internet, I found that Tutti i Santi was on November 1st, and November 2nd was called Festa di morti. Her winter vacation is 19-day long from December 20 to January 7! She didn't know what she would do then, but she said she would go out with her friends and family and maybe visit some Italian cities, like Florence and Rome. However, she has to study hard during the vacation, because she’ll have many tests in January! She has been writing to keypals for 3 months. She has 15-20 keypals, and they are from Korea, Indonesia, Australia, Canada, U.S., France, China and Germany. Her favorite musician groups are led zeppelin and U2! When she comes home, she has to study about 4-5 hours because her teachers give a lot of homework! As to weekends, she usually studies a lot on Sunday, but she goes out with friends on Saturday and goes to a cinema or shopping! She was a friendly and positive girl.

She is Monique from Australia. I met her at the homepage of Student Soft World too. (http://www.studentsoftheworld.info/) The reason why I chose her is she’s also interested in languages. She has been studying Japanese for a few years. She wrote me about her name, “The meaning of her name is advitise”, but I couldn’t understand it. However, her name means she’s free spirited like she’s going to fly, she said. Her name also means a cheese in France. In Australia, they celebrate a lot of holidays, but her family loves Christmas the most. They celebrate the Melbourne cup at the time of the biggest horse race all year round. Her winter vacation is around 2 to 3 weeks long. There’s a lot she do in her family for winter. They go to the winter fair and go wall climbing etc, but she says she wants to get into dancing and other sports. She has been writing to penpals for 6 years and a bit more. She used to write to some penpals, but she stopped writing to them. It was because they got busy and didn’t have any time to write back. Now, she has a penpal named Sarah, who is from the United Kingdom. She doesn’t really have a favorite singer, but she likes all sorts of music. She says there’s a song she has been looking for in Japanese. On Weekends she normally works, but now she’s looking for a job. She said the weekend if its hot enough she’ll go swimming at the pool and go hang out with her friends. It was summer in Australia. I recognized it was opposite to that of Japan. That was interesting.
