Studying theories and expanding my knowledge to aid developing nations

As a Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer, I was involved in tourism promotion in Papua New Guinea. In my two years of work, I sometimes felt like I lacked the skills necessary to encourage local businesses to encourage tourism and to get the locals to understand the importance of promoting tourism in raising their standard of living. Even though I had experience working in tourism, I felt I needed more theoretical knowledge to make progress and thus decided to enter KGU’s graduate program. In developing nations, standards of living are often very low in agricultural regions, and the average lifespan is very short due to high child mortality rates. In contrast to various national-level aid programs, such as ODA, that favor a top-down approach, I want to work from the bottom up. I hope to visit developing countries and work to help them further their development. I also hope to teach younger students at university and in other schools about these countries in order to raise awareness about these issues.
There are a lot of graduate schools now and many people with master’s and doctoral degrees. In order to put what you learn into practice, I think it is important to have a clear idea of what you need to know for what purpose, and to keep in mind why you want to get your degree. You can then put this knowledge to use in your study and research.
